Welcome! We are a new Troop in Thurmont and would love to have you visit a meeting with us!!
Troop 77 welcomes boys and girls ages 11-17 from Thurmont, Emmitsburg, and surrounding areas of Maryland. We’re part of the Frederick District in the National Capital Area Council and are chartered by Catoctin Recreation Council.
We meet the 2nd and 4th Wednesday from 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm at the American Legion outdoor pavilion during the warmer months. We are a brand NEW troop in the area, so we are still building some of the logistics. The scouts are already enjoying getting even more say in things like our Bylaws and learning about Roberts Rules of Order.
As a “Scout-Run Troop,” it is the policy of Troop 77 that the programs and activities will be planned and carried out by the boys and girls, with assistance and supervision by the adult leadership. This is the only way the scouts will learn leadership skills. We do recognize that there still needs to be open lines of communication between adults (parents and troop leadership), as well as a varied level of adult assistance in helping kids planning outings which include reservations or financial obligations. Given that we are a newly founded troop, adult leadership will begin leading many of the programs and activities, with the goal of work towards scouts taking over these roles for adults to become the facilitators.
